The Piper Saratoga is regarded by many as one of the most comfortable light aircrafts there are. Nevertheless, if you are planning to buy one, it is still important that you know the basic characteristics of the airplane. It is not wise to decide on a single positive feature alone. otherwise, you may end up surprised with the many disadvantages it may have. That would certainly be something that you would regret. For instance, just because it is said that the Saratoga is comfortable, you may immediately buy one only to know later that its side windows could not be opened.

The Saratoga’s cabin has an air conditioning system. This is necessary to cool the cabin, especially during the summer, when the climate is obviously hot. The problem here is that the air conditioning of this airplane could not be switched on while the plane is still on the ground and is about to take off. This is because the air conditioning would demand much power and could therefore weaken the capability of the engine. This could be a big problem when the plane is still taxiing and it is already loaded with passengers. It could be described as anything but comfortable. Once in flight, the air conditioning would no longer be useful too because the vent could just be opened. When the all the avionics and other equipments are included, the Piper Saratoga could weigh about 1,039 lbs. Its fuel tanks can carry about 427 lbs of aviation gas. This plane can only have two people with average weights. When compared to other planes of similar design and size, the Saratoga indeed has limitations when it comes to weight capacity. Other planes could carry more than 450 lbs of fuel and this makes them capable of flying long distances and, of course, more weight. The Saratoga no longer has any room for baggage. Because of its limited characteristics when it comes to passenger capacity, it is clear that the Saratoga could not be used as an aircraft for transporting people. It may be best used for aerial surveys and flight training. Nevertheless, many flight training schools still do not choose the Saratoga for flight training, opting instead for lighter aircrafts with simpler navigation systems in the cockpit. One reason that is often mentioned is that the Saratoga is not really that good a performer when compared to other planes, especially those made by Cessna. The Saratoga is often sold at lower prices when compared to other light aircrafts. This is apparently due to the fact that it has many limitations. Nevertheless, if you are planning to buy your first airplane, it would not be bad to try this first. You could then try the more expensive yet better performers later.
