Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the most popular video games of all time. The little Hedgehog, and his good buddy Tails, are always up for an adventure and racing to the finish. Remember that Sonic is known for rolling, running and collecting coins on his way to the finish line. Using these key features of the video game can help you sculpt a much better party.
One of the first places to start is the decorations. The Sonic colors are blue, red, white and silver while these are Sonic’s colors you can also incorporate colors from the video game which includes gold (from the gold coins) and green (from the green grass).
Create balloon clusters by grouping white, blue and red helium balloons together. Tie them together and attach them to a golden ring. The golden ring can be created from a dog chew toy, pool toy or any other ring shaped object. To create a golden coin you can wrap it in tin-foil and paint it gold or wrap it in gold wrapping paper!
Next, you will want to decorate the walls. A fun way to decorate the walls is to try and re-create the TV screen from the video game. Using green strips of green, light brown and dark brown you can create the look of where Sonic runs. Place the strips vertically (yes, vertically as you are trying to create an 8-bit look). Under each green strip place a few brown strips. Repeat this and vary the height to try and create a rolling hill. You can even add a palm tree by using the same brown and green strips!
You’ve decorated the walls and air now you must decorate the people! When everyone walks in the door you can give them their Sonic costume kit. This can be created ahead of time or as an activity for kids as they arrive. Create a sonic mask by using blue paper, white paper, elastic bands and non-smelling black marker. Have the kids draw pupils on the white paper and then cut out a Sonic eyes from the same paper. Then glue it to the blue paper, punch out holes and attach a string or elastic to create the mask. We found that this works much better if you provide guidelines on where to draw Sonic’s eyes and a rough cutout for the blue paper.
After you have the decorations setup you’ll need to take care of all the other party details including the games and activities, food, birthday cake and party favours. Luckily there are plenty of Sonic the Hedgehog party supplies to help you along the way! When planning the rest of the party it is important to remember that Sonic is a very active and speedy character and that he doesn’t usually sit still. This is important when considering the games and party favours as you will want something active (somersault race) and fun (collect all the chocolate coins).
Sonic is a great birthday party theme try to enjoy the party planning and the party itself as you whizz around the planning the details.
